can we talk about summer?

April 11, 2014

what to do this summer from midwestlovefest.comYou know, the Midwest gets a bad rap. Honestly, that’s kind of why I started this blog. I’m from the Midwest, but I’m a perpetual traveler, boho-kind-of-hippie-ish person who celebrates all races/genders/religions/lifestyles. Not everyone in the Midwest is one way (I hate when people stereotype us).

And the same goes for the weather. It’s not just Bravo’s 180 Days of Summer here. We have gorgeous seasons! Yes, winter is a brutal sonofabitch. But our summers sing. So let’s celebrate the summer in the Midwest huh? There’s going to be A TON of awesome things going on around these parts when the weather heats up. Here are a few of my faves that I highly recommend if you’re in the area:

Chicago, IL:

+Outdoor GreenCity Markets are back in Lincoln Park!
+Lollapallooza!Β Going again this year, but snagged 3 day passes courtesy of my wonderful fiance.
+Jammin’ at the Zoo (not going to lie, I’m not a huge fan of zoos..even the Lincoln Zoo. But Ryan bought tickets, so crossing my fingers it doesn’t make me want to slap a zookeeper).
+Free sessions of Yoga by the Lake (by FFC) are coming back!
+A free music festival (or festivals) at Grant Park!
+Mental note: make good use of my membership and go to the Art Institute’s After Dark mix and mingle night.

Milwaukee, WI:

+Summerfest. Lady Gaga, Usher and Paramore are just a few of the headliners. Nothing more needs to be said.
+Kaskade playing at OAK as part of his (announced yesterday) Redux tour (he’s also playing in Detroit!)
+Chocolate Fest in Easy Troy (close to Milwaukee). Worth the extra trek.

Green Bay-area, WI:

+Art at the Park in Appleton (legit fav art walk/thing all summer; I’ve been going with my family since I was 8).
+Natural and Organic Expo in Oshkosh. Might have to make a trip out there to sample some goodies.

Northern (Up North) WI:

+Ryan and I have to make a trip out to Camp Wandawega this summer. Looks like the perfect creative retreat.

Detroit-area, MI:

+Movement Electric Music Festival def looks like a good time!
+Miley Cyrus at Auburn Hills. Love her or hate her, I hear her concert is one hot mess that you can’t stop watching.

Do you have any to add? What are you up to this summer?
